Enough Already. Vote anything but Republican Posted by Picasa

I'm Feeling Angry Today

My foot is swollen and I can't walk properly and I pulled a muscle playing raquetball and now my back is screwed up from trying to walk normally and I'm late for work.

On top of that Bush is in the process of establishing a monarchy here in the U.S and changing his title from President Bush to King Bush. We have American citizens and "enemy combatents" being held for years on end in jails here and abroad without being charged for a crime under the guise of "national security," one of the most Orwellian like excuses ever produced to create a police state. What happened to due process? That's a cornerstone of the 14 Ammendment to the Constition. Torture has been given tacit approval as long as we don't hurt people to the point of complete organ failure and in the latest debacle King Bush is circumventing the law so he can spy on Americans without having to get a court order. Since when is the President of the U.S. above he law? What's next the Thought Police? Is it just me or does it seem that we are sliding towards a precipice? Am I the only one that's so pissed I can't see straight sometimes?

We are spending 5 billion dollars a month in Iraq and another couple of billion in Afganistan. The Bush administration is raising their arms in triumpth because the Iraqi's had elections this last December, and refusing to acknowledge we are in the middle of a civil war beween the Sunnis and Shiites. While Haliburton is raking in billions of dollars in profit reconstructing Iraq, which we initially went in and destroyed, 25% of our kids don't have health insurance.

The disparity between rich and poor is ever widening and as the country floats farther to the right, working American's are struggling against anti-worker policies, depressed wages and dissiminated pention plans , while Big Oil is raking in 9 billion dollars a quarter in profit, yet still qualitying for tax breaks and subsidies. Our industry and textile sectors are jumping all over the globe trying to find the cheapest place to open their factories, while American's blue collar middle class is being gutted, victims to "Global Trade." It's sad and pathetic. The people who helped vote in Bush back in 2000 must have had their mouths glued to a bong.

Goddammit.

Anyway, enough meandering. I can't change the world, but it sure feels good to vent my frustrations.

Apple Burgers and Organic Eating

I just realized that I don't need to keep putting the date on my entries as the program does it automatically. So, I will title this Apple Burgers and Organic Eating.

After having eaten like a pig for many years and filled my body with a myriad of toxins, I finally decided in December 2005, to go the whole foods route otherwise known as "going organic." I won't get into the details here, I have class in an hour and if I start getting excited about something, I'm liable to get out of control and possibly miss class. I'll post something later on.

There is a misconception that eating organically is some kind of diet, but although weight loss often happens, eating organically is just one part of a much larger life style change. It's changing the way you think, eat and go about your life. Here I'm just going to focus on eating.

Eating salads can get boring, and even thought there are dozens of ways to make a salad, invariably you start to crave something different. After not having had a hamburger for several months I was really craving one. I couldn't stop thinking about driving to In & Out and picking up a Double-Double, yet I knew that doing so would open a Pandora's Box of problems and would cause me to justify falling back into my old culinary habits. Instead, I exercised some self-control and rustled up, with the help of my lovely wife, some apple burgers. What? you might be asking, dessert before dinner? I know it sounds fruity (as an idea and a meal) but, I can assure you that apple burgers are tasty and delectable. To make your own batch, do the following.
1. Get three green apples, one green bell pepper, two cups of brown rice, a table spoon of ginger, 2 teaspoons of olive oil, ten slices of bread and mix everything together after of course, cutting/processing all the ingredients. (Make sure you pit the bell pepper and take out the seeds) Using a wooden spoon and stirring constantly for ten minutes didn't quite do the trick. I washed my hands and then kneaded everything together with hands, kind of like working with dough. My hands started cramping so my wife took over for a while. Twelve to fifteen minutes between the two of us gave us the consistency we needed to make the burgers. After your apple burger paste is ready, get a ball of it and form it into a patty about the size of your palm, or a little smaller if you have ape sized hands. You should be able to squeeze out about ten or so patties.

At this point, heat up some oil in a pan and place as many patties as you can get into it without crowding. Cook about three minutes each side and then take them out. Serve on pita bread. I'm a ketchup freak so I poured some ketchup and mustard on mine. They make a fine meal. It's kind of like eating a hamburger, but with a veggie twist. Try the recipe and let us know how they came out.

Me Posted by Picasa

February 20, 2006

Although working for the goverment has it's down side, one of the most positive things is the seemingly unending supply of holidays there are. It seems there is a celebration for everything. Although it would be nice to spend the entire day in bed reading under a nice, warm comforter, an array of class assignments and my thesis await me.

Blogs seem somewhat self indulgent, but like most people, I gravitate towards those things which are cost concious, and free is about as cost concious as one can get. I enjoy writing and will let time dicate the flow of my thoughts and the direction my little corner of the cyber universe directs itself.

Until then it's off to the library.
