Anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most wretched conditions that a person can suffer from. It slows down time and makes every waking moment second to second torture. The only thing a person thinks about when they are anxious is when is it going to end. I have suffered from anxiety for most of my life. Luckily for me, my anxiety has been generally intermittent, but when it hits it hits hard and can severely impact the quality of my life.

Anxiety disorders include panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and phobias (social phobia, agoraphobia, and specific phobia).

  • Approximately 40 million American adults ages 18 and older, or about 18.1 percent of people in this age group in a given year, have an anxiety disorder.
  • Anxiety disorders frequently co-occur with depressive disorders or substance abuse.
  • Most people with one anxiety disorder also have another anxiety disorder. Nearly three-quarters of those with an anxiety disorder will have their first episode by age 21.5
There are a lot of great medications out there to treat anxiety, which can help most people.
I've always hated taking medication, so I take a lot of supplements that for the most part do the same thing. If you suffer from anxiety and don't want to take medication, particularly those in the benzo family; Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, etc. which can be very addictive, you might try supplements. This is a list of what I take. I'm not saying they are for everyone, but they help me. You have to experiment with the dose and the time you take them, but I find that they help take the major edge off any bad day that I'm having. Always check before mixing supplements and medications as there could be side affect. One obvious one is mixing Kava with benzos. Many people have gotten very sick to the point of hospitalization for mixing the two up.

If you can't sleep, don't take sleeping pills. Try 3 mgs. of Melatonin along with some Valerian root about 1/2 before going to bed. It will help you sleep.

Don't let your anxiety make you so anxious you stop living. Take control of it by not only taking mineral and nutritional supplements, but also by living in the moment and keeping yourself healthy physically, spiritually and emotionally.
